INDUSTRIES IN GOA



The state of Goa has 5,765 small-scale industrial units and around 16 industrial estates which have been established by the Goa Industrial Development Corporation. Medium scale industries include the manufacturing of pesticides, fertilisers, mining, tyres, tubes, footwear, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, wheat products, steel rolling, fruits and fish canning, cashew nuts, textiles and brewery products. Information Technology (IT) and ITES industry are extremely well suite to Goa owing to the industry's non-polluting nature. At the same time, these industries ma virtually conservative demands on precious resources such as land, electricity and water.

Apart from these, there are traditional crafts like the terra cotta and pottery, brass an metal ware craft, bamboo craft, fiber craft, crochet and embroidery which are produced on large scale.

Industrial Policy of Goa

 The industrial policy of Goa aims to:

a)Harness the human resources of the state, improve the quality of life of the citizens and preserve the pollution free environment of Goa.

b)Provide an efficient system of approvals. (Single window system)

c)Give thrust to export oriented industries.

d) Encouraging foreign investments in the state.

e) Encourage setting up of industries which are non-polluting and employment oriented.

TRANSPORT AND COMMUNICATION IN GOA

Road Transport



Goa has a total of 224 kms of National highway, 232 kms of state highway and 815 kms of district roads. Two National Highways, NH-66 runs along India's west coast and connects Goa to Mumbai in the north and Mangalur to the south. NH-4A runs across the state to connect the capital Panjim to Belagavi in the east thus linking Goa to the cities in the Deccan. The NH-17A connects NH-17 to Mormugao Harbour from Cortalim, and the new NH-17B, four lane highway connects Mormugao Harbour to NH-17 at Verna, via Dabolim airport.

As tourism has received a huge impetus in Goa, all the parts in Goa, especially the tourist spots, are well covered by an extensive network of transportation system and a variety of modes of transport.

Railways



The Konkan railway passes through the state of Goa. Goa has two major railway stations- Madgaum and Vasco-da-Gama. Both these stations are located in south Goa. The South Central Railway terminus is at Vasco-da-Gama and the Konkan Railway terminus is at Margao. Goa also has local trains that shuttle between the North and South districts. Special Dudhsagar Rail Tours provide a rail tour to Dudhsagar Waterfalls.

Water Transport



The physiography of Goa shows numerous creeks and rivers. Water transport provides one of the cheapest and easily available modes of transport. There are a number of points where ferry service is available to cross these creeks. A new passengership has been introduced from Goa to Mumbai. 

Airways



At present there is only one international airport in Goa located at Dabolim, near the town of Vasco. A new international airport is under construction at Mopa in Pernem taluka.
